Date flapjack SOS

Date flapjack
Soak 250g of dates in 200 ml of boiling water for about 15 minutes then add vanilla or almond essence and purée. 
Next melt 150g margarine, butter or low fat spread, add 75g brown sugar, allow to melt, then add 200g rolled oats and mix well. 
Add the date purée and mix well then put mixture in a greased and lined 8" square tin and bake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees centigrade
